party hair

Posted on September 21, 2013 at 11:55 AM Comments comments (116)
With summer over it is time to start thinking about the holiday party's that will be coming soon. If you are like most of us the summer sun and fun has dried out your hair , so to start you will need a good clarifying treatment. This can be done in the salon or at home but you really need a good treatment like Malibu 2000. Once that's done follow it with a deep moisturizing treatment.
For holiday hair you want it in the best condition possible.  Messy is in so don't over work your hair when trying to put it up in an updo. This season less is more. If your hair is too silky soft try dirtying up a little with hair spray or textured powder before trying to put it up.
To add some blind try a sparkly clip or barrette , we have some really pretty ones for sale in my salon. Most of all , have fun with your hair and Party like a Rock-star!

Finding a new stylist

Posted on August 23, 2013 at 11:09 AM Comments comments (20)
If you are in need of a new hair stylist there are a few things to consider.  Ask your friends and coworkers for a recommendation. Call around ask about prices and appointments. Some salons only take appointments , some will do walk ins.  Prices vary a lot these days , if you don't want sticker shock the first time in ask before making the appointment .We have a standard price list but it vary s as to the length of hair and styling involved .Some salons that have stylist that are all both renters can charge different prices for each stylist.
Next make sure they take the time to talk to you about what you are looking for in your new style. Don't let them start cutting till you feel they understand you. If you don't get that feeling get up and walk out!  it is better then wearing a hairdo for weeks or even months you hate.
In my 30 years of owning a salon and working as a stylist i have had people come in and tell me they got my number from some one at church, grocery store, dr. office and even restaurant. So if you see someone with hair you love ask were they got it done, get the phone number.

Posted on May 6, 2013 at 10:59 AM Comments comments (17)
Are you tired of the same old look, but don't want to huge change. try adding a few hair extensions. You can have one or 2 of color , a pop of red or purple on one side can really spice it up. Most can be worn for 4 to 5 weeks. The great thing is if you don't like it after a day or 2 you can have them taken out in a few minutes. Thinking of a few blonde streaks , they can be added with no damage to your own hair.  A fun way to try a new look that you don't have to keep for the next 6 months not unless you want to. No growing out! they get taken out. We charge $15 for 1,, 2 or more are $12 each. Only takes a few minutes to put in.

Vitamins to help your nails

Posted on April 1, 2013 at 1:56 PM Comments comments (308)
A poor diet can hurt your nails and hair. There are a few vitamins that will help your nails in many ways. Vitamin A helps nails grow. You can find it in oranges, carrots egg yolks , spinach and chard. Vitamin C prevents hang nails. Strawberry's , citrus fruits and red peppers are good for this. Biotin witch is a B vitamin helps to strengthen hair and nails. It can be found in salmon, bananas, carrots ,egg yolks and cruciferous vegetables. A lack of iron in your diet can lead to malformed and spoon-shaped nails. Eating red meat, eggs, green leafy veggies and whole grans will boost your iron.
Zinc: if you have white spots on your nails you could be low in zinc. Try adding toasted wheat germ. oysters , peanuts and dark chocolate to your diet.

white spots on finger nails

Posted on February 25, 2013 at 12:24 PM Comments comments (65)
White spots on your nail plates usually are not a sign of illness or poor diet. They are a sign of stress or too harsh of chemicals used on the hands and nails. If you are peeling off your old polish that can do it too. Keeping your nails trimmed and well hydrated can help your nails recover. Always used the recommended polish remover .

hair extensions

Posted on January 21, 2013 at 4:50 PM Comments comments (31)
If your thinking of getting hair extensions here are a few good tips.
I got them in my hair about 2 months ago. I have very fine hair shoulder length . I have always want long thick hair . maybe that's why I became a hair stylist .
First know that it is going to be more work then the hair you have now. It takes longer to wash, comb and style then your own hair. I did not think about that part , I was just so excited to be getting the hair I always dreamed of.
Next don't cheap out on the hair! Buy good hair, the cheap stuff doesn't last and it will be a lot more work. When they get the hair in at the suppler it takes more time to determined what way the cortex  goes on the hair so some of it they just strip it off , thats the cheap hair. Better quality hair has the cortex still in place and it is going the right way. The cortex is the outer layer of the hair. This hair is more manageable and requires less styling. I got cheap hair , I have to curl or flatiron every day. I used to take 10minutes to do my hair , now it takes 30 minutes. But I have longer fuller hair , it looks great .
Lastly , sleep with your hair in a pony tail. it will keep it from matting , less tangles the better. The more you have to pull and tug on  knots the more extensions you will pull out.
