Do you have a wedding coming up or another big event in your life that you need to look your best. ? get a trial run done. Go into the salon ahead of time. have them try out a few looks . This will help with the stress the day of the event. Sometimes what you have in mind doesn't work with your hair or veil. Let the styist play around with your hair a little see what unfolds , you may be suprised.

party hair

With summer over it is time to start thinking about the holiday party's that will be coming soon. If you are like most of us the summer sun and fun has dried out your hair , so to start you will need a good clarifying treatment. This can be done in the salon or at home but you really need a good treatment like Malibu 2000. Once that's done follow it with a deep moisturizing treatment.
For holiday hair you want it in the best condition possible.  Messy is in so don't over work your hair when trying to put it up in an updo. This season less is more. If your hair is too silky soft try dirtying up a little with hair spray or textured powder before trying to put it up.
To add some blind try a sparkly clip or barrette , we have some really pretty ones for sale in my salon. Most of all , have fun with your hair and Party like a Rock-star!

Finding a new stylist

Posted on August 23, 2013 at 11:09 AM Comments comments (17)
If you are in need of a new hair stylist there are a few things to consider.  Ask your friends and coworkers for a recommendation. Call around ask about prices and appointments. Some salons only take appointments , some will do walk ins.  Prices vary a lot these days , if you don't want sticker shock the first time in ask before making the appointment .We have a standard price list but it vary s as to the length of hair and styling involved .Some salons that have stylist that are all both renters can charge different prices for each stylist.
Next make sure they take the time to talk to you about what you are looking for in your new style. Don't let them start cutting till you feel they understand you. If you don't get that feeling get up and walk out!  it is better then wearing a hairdo for weeks or even months you hate.
In my 30 years of owning a salon and working as a stylist i have had people come in and tell me they got my number from some one at church, grocery store, dr. office and even restaurant. So if you see someone with hair you love ask were they got it done, get the phone number.

New life to an old look

Are you tired of the same old look, but don't want to huge change. try adding a few hair extensions. You can have one or 2 of color , a pop of red or purple on one side can really spice it up. Most can be worn for 4 to 5 weeks. The great thing is if you don't like it after a day or 2 you can have them taken out in a few minutes. Thinking of a few blonde streaks , they can be added with no damage to your own hair.  A fun way to try a new look that you don't have to keep for the next 6 months not unless you want to. No growing out! they get taken out. We charge $15 for 1,, 2 or more are $12 each. Only takes a few minutes to put in.

hair extensions

If your thinking of getting hair extensions here are a few good tips.
I got them in my hair about 2 months ago. I have very fine hair shoulder length . I have always want long thick hair . maybe that's why I became a hair stylist .
First know that it is going to be more work then the hair you have now. It takes longer to wash, comb and style then your own hair. I did not think about that part , I was just so excited to be getting the hair I always dreamed of.
Next don't cheap out on the hair! Buy good hair, the cheap stuff doesn't last and it will be a lot more work. When they get the hair in at the suppler it takes more time to determined what way the cortex  goes on the hair so some of it they just strip it off , thats the cheap hair. Better quality hair has the cortex still in place and it is going the right way. The cortex is the outer layer of the hair. This hair is more manageable and requires less styling. I got cheap hair , I have to curl or flatiron every day. I used to take 10minutes to do my hair , now it takes 30 minutes. But I have longer fuller hair , it looks great .
Lastly , sleep with your hair in a pony tail. it will keep it from matting , less tangles the better. The more you have to pull and tug on  knots the more extensions you will pull out.

Thick curly hair

Need help with thick curly hair, it maybe time to change up your shampoo and conditioner. A cream based shampoo that gently cleanse and hydrates , try Nexus Theratin shampoo. Instead of an instant conditioner try a hair Masque , you have to leave them on a few minutes longer but it will be well worth it. Don't brush your hair! use a wide tooth comb when wet . After it drys run a little argon oil throw it using your fingers to lift and separate curls. Most of the time the less you do after it is dry the better. instead of washing everyday just mist with water and scrunch each morning.

static,dry hair

Now that winter is here, well our winter here in Florida isn't that cold , but when we have to turn the heat on in the house it drys out the air and your Hair. Fly away hair and static hair are best treated with a little leave in conditioner. Getting the moisture back in your hair will keep it from being unruly . when brushing your hair if there is a lot of static try spraying a little hair spray on your brush before putting it in your hair. Washing your hair a little less often can also help get some of your own natural oils back into your hair.

shiney healthy hair

The better your general health the better hair 'll have.  A sound diet full of protein and dark greens. Swiss -chard is great of the natural biotin in it.. Drink plenty of water , it is good for your skin and hair. * to 10 glasses a day are recommended, most of us don't drink half that much.  Put down the blow-dryer, Give your hair a break now and then , blow drying every day can be hard on your hair. When  you can let it air dry and just fluff it up with your hands when dry. All the little things add up to one Happy head of Hair!

Put an end to dry summer Hair!

Summers over now is the time to really get some moisture back into your hair. Here on the beaches we are out in the sun and salt water for months. As a result our hair get dry and can become dull and brittle. If you cant make it in to the salon for a deep conditioning treatment, do them yourself at home. Aloxi and Paul Mitchel both make treatments you can do at home. We sell them in the salon. I would suggest   once a week for a month then every other week.
This will help bring back the shine and life to dull dry hair. Also regular conditioning treatments help your color stay in long and look better. Make the time ! Only Takes 10 minutes.

too much sun

As the summers end gets closer we can see what the months of sun and salt water have done to our clients hair. Now is the time for deep conditioning treatments .  Weather you have them done in the salon or at home just get started doing it at least 2 times a month. Hair that is too dry will not hold color well or look very shiny . Dried out hair can be very hard to style and you maybe spending too much time doing it each day. Make the time, ten minutes and a good conditioner   is all it takes to have your hair looking its best.
